Autumn with the Animals Festival

Fun-filled day for the whole family! Go wild for our wildlife programs, live music, canoeing, food, games, crafts, campfire & more! Great for children ages 3 & up!


Day of Timeline:

  • Canoeing on the Cedar Run Lake: 10:00am – 2:45pm (advanced sign-up day of the event)
  • Storytime with a Wildlife Resident: 10:30am
  • Hunters of the Sky (Raptor) Educational Program: 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm
  • Guided Wildlife Housing Area Hike: 10:30am & 1:00pm
  • Reptile Encounter Program: 11:45am, 12:30pm, 2:00pm
  • Meet & Greets with some of our Wildlife Residents throughout the day!
  • Temporary face tattoos
  • Campfire with marshmallows available for purchase

Hoot, Waddle & Stroll 5k Trail Run & Guided Stroll Fundraiser
Sep 25 @ 9:00 am – 10:30 am

Run for a cause this fall in our 8th annual 5k Trail Run, going through our trails & Wildlife Enclosure Area. Run, walk or waddle on the same course with professional timing. Not a runner or looking to support another participant? Enjoy the outdoors & take a guided stroll through our Wildlife Housing Area with one of our guides. Geared for all ages!

Pre-registration tickets are ON SALE NOW! Sign up before Monday, September 6th to ensure you get your event t-shirt. While supplies last for all who sign up after 9/6/21.
Water & lite bites will be provided to participants before and after the race.

UPDATE 9/15: Pre-registration will end on Wednesday, 9/22/21 at midnight. Day of race registration will be open from 8am-9am on Saturday, 9/25/21. 

 

5k Trail Runners: 

  • $30 per Adult Runner
  • $25 per Student Runner

Guided Stroller:

  • $18 per Adult
  • $8 per Child ages 4-12
  • FREE for Children 3 & under

 

Top male and female racers will receive prizes!
The race begins and ends at the Pavilion outside of the Nature Center.

 


Event Details:

  • Guided Stroll: Starts after the race begins
  • Awards: Will follow the end of the race
  • Nature Center opens: 10am

Feel free to walk around the Wildlife Housing Area, Nature Center & our trails after the race.

Night Hike

Experience the refuge in an exciting way, at night! Enjoy a guided hike at night to visit nocturnal habitats that are home to owls, raccoons, opossums and other wildlife that emerge after dark. Be there as the ‘night shift’ awakens. Program begins at the Nature Center. Hike is approximately 1 mile. $15/adult, $10/child. Suitable for ages 8 and up. 20 participants maximum. Advanced registration required.

Join us for a morning of photography. Our trained staff will bring select birds out of their enclosures for photographing up-close and personal on perches and in a natural setting. Owl-O-Ween Fun at Cedar Run

No tricks here! Dress up in your Halloween costumes & enjoy an afternoon trick-or-treating at our wildlife enclosures, along with a Halloween movie, costume contest, games, crafts, food & more! It is going to be a hoot! Great for children ages 3 & up!

Cedar Run will be closed to the public for general admissions on Saturday, 10/23 at 1pm to get ready for Owl-O-Ween.

Doors open at 3:00pm

Cedar Run for Your Life: Haunted Guided Hikes
Oct 23 @ 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Just in time for hoots & spooks of Halloween! Only the bravest will dare to explore Cedar Run after dark on our haunted guided night hikes! Learn a bit more about the Legend of New Jersey’s famous Jersey Devil, and hope he does not make an appearance while you are deep in the woods.

Sit around a campfire roasting marshmallows & watch a Halloween movie… if you survive…
Geared toward ages 10 and up.

Rain or shine.

Timed Haunted Night Hikes:
PRE-REGISTRATION CLOSED ON FRIDAY 10/22/21.

  • Doors open at 7:00pm. Enjoy a cozy campfire & Halloween movie while you wait for your hike.
  • Guided hikes will run between 20-30 minutes long, and will be a guided walking hike.
  • Recommended to arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled guided hike, and will promptly begin at the scheduled time.
  • Limited space of 16 per timed guided hike. Advanced registration required.
  • Every participant for the guided hike will need to sign a waiver before participating in the hike. Not recommended for pregnant women or anyone with a heart condition.

Limited space for each Haunted Guided Hike! Grab your tickets now before they… disappear!

  • $15 per person.
  • Children ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an Adult during the duration of the guided hike.
  • No children under 10 may be permitted on the guided hikes.

Meet a few misunderstood animals that call Cedar Run home and check out some of the interesting and eerie artifacts in our collection. Who’s teeth are those? Where’d that fur come from? And plain old “What is that?!” 10:00-11:30am or 1:00-2:30pm. Ages 5 and up preferred. $15/adult, $10/child; members free (includes refuge admission). Fee includes Refuge admission. Advanced registration required.

10/27/21 – Due to lack of registrations our morning session has been cancelled. The afternoon session will continue as planned. You register for that here.
