Blacklight Night Hike

Experience the enchanting world of Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge like never before on our Blacklight Night Hike! As the sun sets and darkness falls, join us for a unique adventure where we use blacklights to uncover the hidden wonders of the nocturnal world.

Equipped with special blacklight flashlights, you’ll explore trails that come alive with glowing insects, fascinating fungi, and other nighttime surprises that are normally hidden from view. Our educators will guide you through the refuge, sharing intriguing facts about the creatures and plants that make the night their home.

This family-friendly event is perfect for adventurers aged 8 and up who are eager to explore and learn. Be sure to dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle and a sense of wonder!

Space is limited, so be sure to register early to secure your spot on this one-of-a-kind nighttime journey. Join us for an evening of exploration and discovery under the stars!

This program begins at 7:00pm and runs 1hr+ depending on our findings, not to exceed 90 minutes. Ages 8+ please. $15/adult, $10/child. 20 participants maximum. Advanced registration required.

Raptor Renderings – Art Inspired by Birds of Prey

Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature and unleash your creativity at Cedar Run, with our “Raptor Renderings” art program. Join us for a unique opportunity to observe and capture the majestic essence of captive birds of prey through drawing, sketching, or painting.

This engaging program invites participants of all artistic skill levels to connect with nature in a meaningful way. With the help our educators, attendees will have the chance to interact with captive birds of prey, including hawks and owls, up close.

Throughout the session, participants will have the freedom to choose their preferred medium, whether it be pencil, charcoal, watercolor, or acrylics, as they bring these magnificent birds to life on canvas or paper. As you sketch or paint, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the unique characteristics, behaviors, and conservation challenges facing these incredible raptors.

No prior art experience is necessary to participate in “Raptor Renderings.” Whether you’re an experienced artist or a beginner looking to explore your creative side, this program offers a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

By participating in “Raptor Renderings,” you’ll not only create a beautiful piece of art but also gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of wildlife conservation. Through your artwork, you’ll help raise awareness about the beauty and significance of birds of prey and the critical role they play in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Join us for a memorable day of art and nature at Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Whether you’re seeking inspiration, relaxation, or simply a fun activity, “Raptor Renderings” promises an unforgettable experience. *Please note: art will be self-guided. Our educators will provide the subjects and information about the species. Participants must bring their own supplies.

This program begins at 10am and runs approximately 1 hour. This event is geared for teens and adults. $30/member, $40/non-member. Advanced registration required. Fee includes daily admission to the Refuge for the participant.

Weekly Bird Walk
Oct 8 @ 7:00 am – 8:15 am

Join us for weekly bird walks on the property of Cedar Run! Meet in the parking lot in front of the Nature Center, where we will walk around the Cedar Run property to look and listen for birds throughout the different Pine Barrens Ecosystems! The walk covers between 1 to 2 miles with occasional standing to observe. Waterproof shoes are recommended. Please bring your binoculars if you have them, if not we do have a limited number available to rent.

7:00-8:15am. Suitable for ages 10 and up. $5/non-member, members free. Binoculars for rent are first come, first served ($3 for non-members, members free). Advance registration required. Registration ends Sundays at 5pm. Rain cancels the event.

You and Me Preschool

Our You and Me program is held once a month year-round, with Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday sessions available to choose from. Classes run 10:00-11:00 am or 11:15 am -12:15 pm. Ages 3-5. Cost is $12/child with one adult free. Registration includes refuge admission for child and parent.

We will read, do a craft and head out and about on an adventure about the month’s theme. Space is limited to 12 children.  Advanced registration required. *Please note: classes are held outdoors. Please dress for the weather.

However, in the event of a class cancellation due to inclement weather we will offer all registrants a credit towards the next month’s class or a fee refund.
  • These classes are “adult and me” so an adult is required to stay with the student. Younger siblings who are not enrolled in our program are welcome, but please make sure that they are not being disruptive to the other children. If we find a younger sibling is being disruptive to the class, we may ask you to excuse yourself from our program.
  • Classes will be held outdoors. Only snow closings of the Medford Twp School District will cancel our classes. Please be sure your child is adequately prepared for weather conditions including rain, snow, sun, cold, and heat.

Join us for an enchanting exploration of avian wonders during our “Magic of Migration” event at Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge! In celebration of World Migratory Bird Day, this immersive program invites bird enthusiasts of all ages to delve into the incredible journeys undertaken by migratory birds around the globe.

Highlights of the Program – 

  1. Interactive Presentation:
    • Learn about the science and significance of bird migration. Discover the extraordinary navigational skills that guide species across continents and hear stories of their amazing journeys.
  2. Live Bird Demonstration:
    • Get up close with a Wildlife Ambassador.
