Here’s a way to open the eyes of young ones to the wonders of nature. Budding naturalists will enjoy nature-filled activities using all of their senses. They will explore the natural world around them through play, walks, stories, games and crafts. Half and full day sessions available. August 5-9. 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Entering K-1st grade.

What creatures lurk in the waters of Cedar Run? Campers will explore the puddles, ponds and swamps of the Refuge. We will follow a frog’s footsteps, find bug-eating plants and see what else awaits us. It will be a wild and wet week of mysterious creatures and water wonders. July 22-26, August 5-9. 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Entering 2nd-3rd grade.

In this special interest camp we will engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and nature inspired activities and experiments. Summer Camp – Discovery by the Day

Cedar Run offers week-long camp sessions, but understands that some families can’t commit to a full week. With our “Discovery by the Day” sessions you can sign-up for whichever days you’d like to accommodate your scheduling needs. New activities are planned each day so each child can participate. Camp days run 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. Campers entering grades K-5th only. $55/day or regular full day pricing for all 5 days.

Hoot, Waddle and Stroll 5K Trail Run/Walk

The 5th Annual Hoot, Waddle and Stroll 5K Trail Run & Half-Mile Stroll is a fun-filled, family-oriented event to support Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Cedar Run Refuge, located in the Pinelands of Medford Township, cares for nearly 5,000 animals annually and is also dedicated to educating children about the importance of conserving our shared habitats. Cedar Run also aims to promote outdoor health and wellness for all ages.

Event Details

5K Trail Run

Goes through rugged single-track trails within the property of Cedar Run and a very small segment on the road. It is a beginner to intermediate mostly flat course with varied terrain and scenic views. This is a great course for first-time trail runners and families! This course is not designed for strollers and participants need to be able to maneuver through tree ruts, steps, bridges, soft sand, etc.

Half-Mile Stroll

Designed to allow all family members to participate! Less rugged trails suitable for strollers and young children.

7:30-8:45 am: Packet Pick-up and Race Day Registration

9:00 am: 5K Trail Run begins!

9:15 am: Half-Mile Stroll begins!

10:00 am: Award Ceremony

5K Awards

5K Awards will be given out in the following categories:

  • Top Fundraising Team
  • Fastest Male Overall
  • Fastest Female Overall
  • Medals also will be given to the TOP 3 male and female finishers in each of the following divisions: 12 and under, 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+

Arrival / Parking

Please make every effort to arrive prior to 8:30 am and we encourage car pooling due to limited parking! Parking will be limited to street parking and our overflow parking lot. The entrance to Cedar Run will be closed 30 minutes prior to the start of the race making the overflow parking lot inaccessible after 8:30 am (unless the locals know how to access the overflow parking lot by Jackson Road!).

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and attend a “Volunteer Information Session.” Volunteer Information Sessions are typically held just before the arrival of our wildlife babies in January, February and March. Dates for 2020 are January 18th, February 22nd, and March 14th, 2020. Sign-ups can be made below.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work in a Wildlife Hospital? Are you curious about what goes into the process of rehabilitating injured and/or orphaned wild animals? Now is your chance to go behind-the-scenes and find out! Join one of our state licensed wildlife rehabilitators for brunch (bagels, doughnuts, coffee and tea) followed by an in-depth discussion and tour of our Wildlife Hospital and outdoor rehabilitation enclosures. These facilities are not open to the general public – this is a rare opportunity to tour them with a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

Visitors can join us for Friday night campfires and storytelling, Saturday nature days and guest speakers, and Sunday canoeing, tours and guided hikes. Fees cover a full day of activities. Come for one thing, or see it all!

  • Ongoing, 10am-4pm: Trivia Treasure Hunt – How well do you know Cedar Run? Come try our Trivia Treasure Hunt! Get a question sheet from the front desk and search Cedar Run for the answers. Come back with all the right answers and win a prize!
  • Ongoing, 10am-4pm: Landscape Nature Art – Create some beautiful, simple land art using natural materials! Use all natural objects such as pebbles, twigs, branches, pine cones, mud, leaves and petals. Photograph your sculpture and “tag” us on Facebook or Instagram for a chance to win a prize! Self-guided.
  • Ongoing, 5-7pm: Canoeing – Don’t miss this limited experience to paddle on Cedar Run Lake! 20-minute timeslots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • 7pm: Sunset Storytelling & Campfire – Come join us for an evening of Pinelands stories around the campfire. Stories are for all ages and we will roast marshmallows after.

Events scheduled for Saturday, September 5th – Celebrate Raptors on “International Vulture Awareness Day”

  • 10am or 11am: Raptor Rendezvous – Ever wonder what it is like to care for our resident raptors? What do they eat? How do we keep them from getting bored? Join us for a rare glimpse into the world of raptor feeding, care, and enrichment during this exciting and engaging program.
  • 11:30am: Vulture Culture – Bones, Skulls and Skins, Oh My! Come check out the different animal artifacts Cedar Run has in their collection and get hands on with this “Vulture Culture.” Who’s teeth are those? Where’d that fur come from? Learn about how artifacts such as these are preserved and more. Explore the refuge in search of animal evidence and test your investigation skills.
  • 1pm: Resident Animal Meet & Greet – Get up-close and personal with some mystery resident animals. Questions and photos welcome!
