“Partners in the Pines” Medford Lakes Canoe Carnival @ Medford Lakes
Aug 6 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Two Medford local non-profits working together to better the community!

The Medford Lakes Lions Club (MLLC) is teaming up with Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife (Cedar Run) to bring a little wild to this year’s Medford Lakes Canoe Carnival!

This Year, the MLLC launched its “Partners in the Pines” float series. They will be working together with local leaders to showcase their partnership and efforts in the community. The Lions Club chose to team up with a long-time charity partner of theirs, Cedar Run!

In this year’s float, volunteers from both non-profit organizations are coming together to construct a float full of paper-mache trees, painted critters, and a woodland scene full of wildlife! It has been a great time getting to know each organization and team up in such an event, coming together twice a week since the beginning of July.

The Medford Lakes Lions Club President, Nick Bloodworth, and Cedar Run’s Executive Director, Mike O’Malley, will side-by-side paddling a double canoe platformed float around Lower Aetna Lake.

This year’s float will be a HOOT!
See us on the lake on the evening of Saturday, August 6th.

To purchase tickets: Tickets for bleachers seats on Aetna Way can be purchased in the Medford Lakes Colony Office prior to Canoe Carnival. Colonists are welcome to set up their own chairs on the beach surrounding the bleachers starting at 4:00 pm on August 6th, the afternoon of Canoe Carnival.

_______

ABOUT LIONS CLUB: The Medford Lakes Lions Club is a group of service-minded men and women who are interested in improving our communities; who are young people, families, and Baby Boomers alike. To become a Lion is to become an active volunteer, a member of a respected international organization, a leader in the Medford Lakes community, and a friend to people in need! They run programs like the Cabulance, Food Bank, Youth Scholarships, and more.

ABOUT CEDAR RUN: Founded in 1957, Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge is a non-profit dedicated to the preservation of New Jersey’s wildlife and habitats through education, conservation, and rehabilitation. Cedar Run is located on 171 acres of preserved Pinelands, with over 3 miles of hiking trails, housing nearly 60 non-releasable Wildlife Ambassadors, Nature Center, and a Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital that sees over 6,300 injured or orphaned wild animals every year. Nature Center & hiking trails are open to the public daily, come have a birthday party or learn from an education program. Cedar Run is not state or federally funded and relies on donations to fulfill its mission and support daily operations. ABOUT PARTNERSHIP: The MLLC has raised thousands of dollars to support Cedar Run since 2001. In the last few years, through the Lions Christmas Distribution, Cedar Run has gifted several family memberships to provide local families in need a safe outdoor place to explore nature, learn about New Jersey wildlife, and make lasting memories for years to come. Cedar Run was happy to partner with the local Lions Club to bring a natural oasis to local families that have fallen on hard times.

ABOUT CANOE CARNIVAL: Since 1931, Canoe Carnival has been held during the first week of every August on Lower Aetna Lake. Now it is routinely celebrated on the first Saturday of August. Each year float groups compete for prizes in various divisions, as well as for the grand prize. As Medford Lakes’ main annual event, the Canoe Carnival week-long celebrations kick off with the Ms. and Mr. Medford Lakes Pageant, the Canoe Carnival Ball, and Mardi Gras Night. With a parade of elaborately hand-built floats supported on one or two canoes, it is a spectacle unlike any other!
