- Ongoing, 10am-4pm: Trivia Treasure Hunt – How well do you know Cedar Run? Come try our Trivia Treasure Hunt! Get a question sheet from the front desk and search Cedar Run for the answers. Come back with all the right answers and win a prize!
- Ongoing, 10am-4pm: Landscape Nature Art – Create some beautiful, simple land art using natural materials! Use all natural objects such as pebbles, twigs, branches, pine cones, mud, leaves and petals. Photograph your sculpture and “tag” us on Facebook or Instagram for a chance to win a prize! Self-guided.
- Ongoing, 5-7pm: Canoeing – Don’t miss this limited experience to paddle on Cedar Run Lake! 20-minute timeslots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Events scheduled for Saturday, September 5th – Celebrate Raptors on “International Vulture Awareness Day”
- 10am or 11am: Raptor Rendezvous – Ever wonder what it is like to care for our resident raptors? What do they eat? How do we keep them from getting bored? Join us for a rare glimpse into the world of raptor feeding, care, and enrichment during this exciting and engaging program.
- 11:30am: Vulture Culture – Bones, Skulls and Skins, Oh My! Come check out the different animal artifacts Cedar Run has in their collection and get hands on with this “Vulture Culture.” Who’s teeth are those? Where’d that fur come from? Learn about how artifacts such as these are preserved and more. Explore the refuge in search of animal evidence and test your investigation skills.
- 1pm: Resident Animal Meet & Greet – Get up-close and personal with some mystery resident animals. Questions and photos welcome!

- 8:30am: Early Bird(ing) Gets the Worm – Cedar Run has an exciting birding adventure ready for you! What bird species call Cedar Run home? Learn some birding basics or improve your skills along our trail. Bring sturdy walking shoes, dress in layers, and make sure you have a water bottle and your binoculars (loaner binoculars will be available). Suitable for ages 8 and up.
- Ongoing, 10am-1pm: Pond Dipping – Delve into the world of macro-invertebrates with us! Macros are insect larvae and nymphs, snails and aquatic insects that that live in the water and are able to be seen by the naked eye. What kind of things are living in Cedar Run lake? Stop by and check out what we’ve collected and try your hand at finding some creatures of your own!
- 11am: Fur, Feathers & Scales – Gain a better understanding of the different animal groups and learn how their body coverings serve many important purposes. Meet animals from the different groups to discover the diversity of life in New Jersey!

- 11am: Jr Wildlife Defenders – How can kids make a difference to the animals that live near you? What should you do if you find injured wildlife? Learn this and more during this fun play session — get “hands-on” and try out your animal care skills. Bring a stuffed animal of your own to work with. Ages 3-8 preferred.

- 10:30am: Pinelands Plants Hike – Learn about and identify numerous plants in the Pinelands. One of our educators will lead you on a guided walk along our trails as we practice basic identification skills using leaves, bark and berries.
- 1pm: Wild Edibles – The Pines might be “barren,” there are still plenty of wild edibles available. Delve into this exciting topic to learn more about the often forgotten process of foraging for your food! You might even get to try out something new! Ages 8 and up preferred.
