Our You and Me program is held once a month year-round, with Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday sessions available to choose from. Classes run 10:00-11:00 am or 11:15 am -12:15 pm. Ages 3-5. Cost is $10/child with one adult free. Registration includes refuge admission for child and parent. Extra adults must pay regular admission.

We will read, do a craft and head out and about on an adventure about the month’s theme. Space is limited to 12 children.  Advanced registration required. *Please note: classes are held outdoors. Please dress for the weather.

Younger siblings who are not enrolled in our program are welcome, but please make sure that they are not being disruptive to the other children. To celebrate Grandparent’s Day, join us for a hike through the Refuge with the family! What will we find along the way? 1:00-2:30pm. All ages welcome. $15/non-member adult, $10/non-member child (ages 4-12), members and ages 3 and under free. Fee includes Refuge admission. 20 participants maximum. Advanced registration required.

• 11/15 or 11/16 – Survival Skills

• 3/13 or 3/14 – Fur, Feathers and Scales
• 4/10 or 4/11 – What’s for Dinner? (food chains)
• 5/15 or 5/16 – Discovering Decomposers
• 6/12 or 6/13 – “Wooder” and Wetlands

All parents are welcome to stay and enjoy our grounds and Nature Center while your child is in class or leave the grounds and return at the end of the session.

If we find a younger sibling is being disruptive to the class, we may ask you to excuse yourself from our program.

Pick-up

Experience the refuge in an exciting way, at night! Enjoy a guided hike under the darkness of the new moon to visit nocturnal habitats that are home to owls, raccoons, opossums and other wildlife that emerge after dark. Be there as the ‘night shift’ awakens. Program begins at the Nature Center. Hike is approximately 1 mile. 7:00-8:30pm. ADULTS ONLY! $15/person. 20 participants maximum. Advanced registration required.

Events, unless otherwise noted, run 30-35 minutes.

• Canoeing on the Cedar Run Lake: 10:00am – 2:45pm (advanced sign-up day of the event) Canoeing on Cedar Run Lake will be available in 20-min. time slots. Space is limited. Please sign-up at the Canoe dock to reserve a time. Life jackets are required for all participants when canoeing.
• Hunters of the Sky (Raptor) Educational Program: 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm
• Storytime with a Wildlife Resident: 10:45am, 12:45pm (20-25 min.)
• Guided Trail Hike: 10:30am, 1:00pm
• Resident Animal Tour: 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm
  Been to visit before? First time? Join us for a guided tour of our Wildlife Housing Area and see what you may learn about our resident animals.
• Reptile Encounter Program: 11:45am, 1:45pm, 2:15pm (20-25 min.)
• Adventures in Community Science with special guest, Ron Smith: 1:30pm (45 min.)
  Species and habitats right in our own backyards need our help! Community Science projects are an opportunity for all of us to get involved in protecting biodiversity. Partnerships with conservation organizations and scientists can initiate projects in which you can collect data, protect species, and share in the wonders of the natural world. Join educator and community scientist Ron Smith for a presentation of projects that are underway and discuss and plan for new efforts on the horizon.
• Registration includes refuge admission for the day including our Wildlife Housing Area and hiking trails. Please explore as you’d like outside of the scheduled activities.

New this year: ASL interpretation will be available for select animal programs and times!

Ongoing:

• Meet & Greets with some of our Wildlife Ambassadors throughout the day!
• Make & take crafts, family-friendly games & interactive exhibit tables.
