ReDiscovery Weekends: Kick-Off Day!

Cedar Run is putting a new twist on an old favorite. Instead of one family fun-filled day in September, we’re introducing Re-Discovery Weekends all month long for nature lovers of all ages! Visitors can join us for Friday night campfires and storytelling, Saturday nature days and guest speakers, and Sunday canoeing, tours and guided hikes. Fees cover a full day of activities. Come for one thing, or see it all!

$10/person, ages 3 and up (non-members); $5/person, ages 3 and up (members)

Events scheduled for Friday, September 4th

  • Ongoing, 10am-4pm: Trivia Treasure Hunt – How well do you know Cedar Run? Come try our Trivia Treasure Hunt! Get a question sheet from the front desk and search Cedar Run for the answers. Come back with all the right answers and win a prize!
  • Ongoing, 10am-4pm: Landscape Nature Art – Create some beautiful, simple land art using natural materials! Use all natural objects such as pebbles, twigs, branches, pine cones, mud, leaves and petals. Photograph your sculpture and “tag” us on Facebook or Instagram for a chance to win a prize! Self-guided.
  • Ongoing, 5-7pm: Canoeing – Don’t miss this limited experience to paddle on Cedar Run Lake! 20-minute timeslots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • 7pm: Sunset Storytelling & Campfire – Come join us for an evening of Pinelands stories around the campfire. Stories are for all ages and we will roast marshmallows after.

By registering, you can attend any or all sessions throughout the day. While you are signed up for the day’s events, some sessions have limited capacities so be sure to check your email for information after you complete your registration. Please be sure to check out the Nature Center for any added activities like crafts and make-and-takes too!

Events scheduled for Saturday, September 5th – Celebrate Raptors on “International Vulture Awareness Day”

  • 10am or 11am: Raptor Rendezvous – Ever wonder what it is like to care for our resident raptors? What do they eat? How do we keep them from getting bored? Join us for a rare glimpse into the world of raptor feeding, care, and enrichment during this exciting and engaging program.
  • 11:30am: Vulture Culture – Bones, Skulls and Skins, Oh My! Come check out the different animal artifacts Cedar Run has in their collection and get hands on with this “Vulture Culture.” Who’s teeth are those? Where’d that fur come from? Learn about how artifacts such as these are preserved and more. Explore the refuge in search of animal evidence and test your investigation skills.
  • 1pm: Resident Animal Meet & Greet – Get up-close and personal with some mystery resident animals. Questions and photos welcome!

  • 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm or 2:30pm: Family Nature Hike – Join us for a hike through the Refuge with the family! What will we find along the way?

Have a spare half hour on Tuesday mornings? Join us for virtual lessons featuring a range of natural topics and maybe an animal or two! Topics will vary per week. Outdoor Afternoons
Sep 8 @ 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Get the kids unplugged and outdoors this spring! Take a break from virtual learning and delve into real world learning on Cedar Run’s 171 acres.

  • Small group sizes – 10-12 children per group, dependent on age.
  • Two days to choose from – Choose from a Wednesday OR Thursday afternoon session (same topic runs each day so please only choose one).
  • Two hours of Nature’s classroom time – 1:30-3:30 pm
  • Two age groups – K-1st and 2nd-5th. In the event of small groups sizes, groups may combine.
  • Sign-up for the whole month and save! Single session: $12/member, $15/non-member; 4 session discount: $40/member, $55/non-member.
