Through Our Lenses Children’s Photo Contest
Apr 1 – Apr 22 all-day

FREE WITH ADMISSION!

  • Participate during refuge hours: 7 days, 10:00am–4:00pm (including Easter Sunday)
  • Families with children ages 3–17 may take part in the FREE community competition.
  • Each child can electronically submit one digital image taken during their visit to Cedar Run, during the dates above only, to be eligible for a prize.
  • ALL participants will receive a matted 8 × 10 print of their submission and ALL the photographs will be displayed at Cedar Run during our gallery starting May 1, 2022 and through the month of May.
  • Winners will be chosen with a first, second and third place winner for best photograph in each age category (3–7 • 8–12 • 13–17) and in overall Animal and Landscape categories.
  • There will be no admission charge for participants during the gallery weekend. Prizes can be picked up during the gallery, but prints will be displayed all month long. They can be picked up starting June 1 and up to 60 days afterwards.
  • Prizes include t-shirts, symbolic wildlife adoptions, Cedar Run memberships, admission to kids photography workshops and more.

ReDiscovery Weekend: Friday Fun!

ReDiscover Cedar Run this spring! There’s something for everyone during these 2 exciting days in the wild! Fees cover a full day of activities. Come for one thing, or do it all! $11/adult, $9/child (4-12 years), ages 3 and under free. NOTE: Groupon deals and Library Passes are not valid for special events.

Events scheduled for Friday, April 15th:

  • Ongoing, 10am-4pmTrivia Scavenger Hunt: How well do you know Cedar Run? Come try our Trivia Scavenger Hunt! Get a question sheet from the front desk and search Cedar Run for the answers. Come back with all the right answers and win a prize! Self-guided.
  • 10:30am OR 12:30pmPond Dipping: Delve into the world of macro-invertebrates with us! Macros are insect larvae and nymphs, snails and aquatic insects that that live in the water and are able to be seen by the naked eye. What kind of things are living in Cedar Run lake? Stop by and check out what we’ve collected and try your hand at finding some creatures of your own!
  • Ongoing, 11am-2pm – Make-and-Take: Have a little down time between events? Check out our day’s make-and-take craft. Complete it now or take it home for later. Self-guided.
  • 11am, 1pm OR 3pm – Resident Meet and Greet: Get up-close and personal with some mystery resident animals. Questions and photos welcome!
  • 12pm OR 2pm – Fairy Shelters: Try your hand at building a shelter for a forest fairy. This activity is best for our youngest guests, but fun for all ages!
  • Ongoing, 2-6pm – Canoeing*: Don’t miss this limited experience to paddle on Cedar Run Lake! 20-minute timeslots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Self-guided.
  • Ongoing, 3-5pm – Guided Craft Time: Swing over and get crafty! One of our Educators will lead you in this Springtime craft. Adaptable for all ages. Activity takes approximately 20 mins to complete so stop by when you have time!
  • 3:30pm OR 5pm- Resident Animal Tours: Been to visit before? First time? Join us for a guided tour of our Wildlife Housing Area and see what you may learn about our resident animals. Sessions last about 40 minutes.
  • 6-7pm – Campfire: Enjoy a lovely time by the campfire. Marshmallows included!
  • 7-8:30pm – Night Hike*: Experience the Refuge in an exciting way, at night! Enjoy a guided hike under the light of the moon to visit nocturnal habitats that are home to owls, raccoons, opossums and other wildlife that emerge after dark.

*By registering, you can attend any or all sessions throughout the day. While you are signed up for the day’s events, some sessions have limited capacities so be sure to check your email for information after you complete your registration. Please be sure to check out the Nature Center too!

  • 10am OR 1pm – Raptor Egg Hunt*: Have you ever heard of the Easter Raptor? Join us as we learn all about him during this fun adaptation of a traditional egg hunt! Appropriate for ages 2-10. Hunt will be a staggered start by age (ages 2-4, 5-7 and 8-10).
  • Ongoing, 10am-1pm – Make-and-Take: Have a little down time between events? Check out our day’s make-and-take craft. Complete it now or take it home for later. Self-guided.
  • Ongoing, 10am-2pm – Natural Egg Dyeing: While supplies last!

  • 2pm – Guided Hike: Join us for a hike through the Refuge with the family! What will we find along the way?

Science Rocks! Mini Day-Off
Apr 18 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Day off? Get hands-on at Cedar Run! Join us for a full or half day of exciting science experiments, hikes, animal encounters and more!

1st-5th grade. Space is limited to 20 children per group. Children should dress for the weather and plan on spending the day entirely outdoors. Staying all day? Don’t forget to pack a lunch! Advanced registration required.

The day’s theme…Nature Detectives
AM Session, 9am-12pm: Macro (all things big!)
PM Session, 1-4pm: Micro (all things small!)

Pricing:
Single session – $24/non-member, $20/member.
Full day (9am-4pm) – $50/non-member, $42/member

Bring sturdy walking shoes, dress in layers, and bring a water bottle. 2:00 start. Runs approximately 1 hour. Free with the cost of admission. Maximum participants: 15, on a first come first serve basis. Rain cancels the event.

Members Only Paint Party- Adults Only

Join us to get your creativity flowing! Members 21+ are welcome to join us for a night of painting and fun lead by our Membership Manager, Ashley. We will be painting the lake scene shown below. This makes a great gift or artistic piece for any room in your home. No painting experience is required. Beginners are welcome!

  • Smocks, canvases, and painting supplies will be provided
  • Please bring your own cups, snacks and beverages.
  • This event is for adults only. Must be 21+ and a Cedar Run member to register.
  • Members may bring 1 guest (member or non-member) for an additional fee. please indicate in the registration below if you wish to include a guest.
  • This event will be held in our pavilion rain or shine.
