POP-UP Guided Nature Walk

Join Mr. Jim on an enjoyable leisurely hike of one of the Refuge’s nature trails. Explore the varied habitats from the dry Pitch Pine forest to the moisture-loving Atlantic White Cedars. Learn of the animals that call Cedar Run home. Find out how you can help protect the wonderful wilderness of the New Jersey Pine Barrens! Bring sturdy walking shoes and dress in layers. 1:00 start. Suitable for ages 5 and up. Free with the cost of admission. Maximum participants: 15, on a first come first serve basis. Rain cancels the event.

Full Moon Night Hike- FULLY BOOKED
Nov 19 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Experience the refuge in an exciting way, at night! Enjoy a guided hike at night to visit nocturnal habitats that are home to owls, raccoons, opossums and other wildlife that emerge after dark. Be there as the ‘night shift’ awakens. Program begins at the Nature Center. Hike is approximately 1 mile. $15/adult, $10/child. Suitable for ages 8 and up. Advanced registration required.

Enjoy a special day of programs at the refuge. We will present Hunters of the Sky at 11am and 1pm. Kids can also make a special holiday craft inside the nature center. All ages welcome. Program included with the price of admission.

Winter Solstice Evening – FULLY BOOKED

SPACE IS LIMITED!

Come join us in celebrating the Winter Solstice here at Cedar Run. The shortest day and longest night of the year hold many traditions in anticipation of the sun’s return. Celebrate with us by enjoying a campfire with marshmallow roasting, a story and by making a Winter Solstice lantern to bring the light home with you. A refuge resident will make an appearance too! Feel free to bring dinner to enjoy by the fire. All ages welcome. $15/non-member adult, $10/non-member child (ages 4-12), members and ages 3 and under free. Cost includes refuge admission and marshmallows.

First Day Night Hike – FULLY BOOKED

Come celebrate the first day of 2022 with us!

First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to encourage people to get outdoors. On New Year’s Day, hundreds of free, guided hikes will be organized in all 50 states.  Kids and adults all across America will be participating in First Day Hikes, getting their hearts pumping and enjoying the beauty of a state park.  Last year nearly 55,000 people rang in the New Year, collectively hiking over 133,000 miles throughout the country! Virtual Volunteer Information Session – GENERAL

Full Moon Owl Prowl

Winter is often the best time of the year to locate owls in the forest as they are in the midst of nesting season. Program begins at the Outdoor Pavilion (with heaters!) for an up-close experience with our resident owls followed by a hike on the trail in search of our local species. Please dress accordingly and wear comfortable shoes. No flashlights, please. 5:00-7:00pm. Suitable for ages 8 and up. $15/adult, $10/child. Advanced registration required. This program will fill up!
