Cedar Run is putting a new twist on an old favorite. Instead of one family fun-filled day in September, we’re introducing Re-Discovery Weekends all month long for nature lovers of all ages! Visitors can join us for Friday night campfires and storytelling, Saturday nature days and guest speakers, and Sunday canoeing, tours and guided hikes. Fees cover a full day of activities. Come for one thing, or see it all!

$10/person, ages 3 and up (non-members); $5/person, ages 3 and up (members)

Events scheduled for Sunday, September 27th

  • Ongoing, 10am-2pm: Canoeing – Don’t miss this limited experience to paddle on Cedar Run Lake! 20-minute timeslots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm or 2:30pm: Resident Animal Tour – Been to visit before? First time? Join us for a guided tour of our Wildlife Housing Area and see what you may learn about our resident animals. Sessions begin on the half hour and last about 40 minutes
  • 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm or 2:30pm: Family Nature Hike – Join us for a hike through the Refuge with the family! What will we find along the way?

By registering, you can attend any or all sessions throughout the day. While you are signed up for the day’s events, some sessions have limited capacities so be sure to check your email for information after you complete your registration. Please be sure to check out the Nature Center for any added activities like crafts and make-and-takes too!

“Tracks and Traces” Day Off Adventures

Day off from school? Join us for a full day of fun activities at Cedar Run!

We’ll learn to walk like an animal, follow tracks around the refuge and make tracks of your own, discover scat and enjoy lunch and marshmallows by a roaring fire! Children should dress for the weather and plan on spending the day entirely outdoors. Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. 9am-3pm. Grades K-5th. $60/child. Space is limited to 10 children per group. Face masks are required when social distancing isn’t possible. Temperature check and health screening at check-in. Advanced registration required.

“FFFFrigid Fun” Day Off Adventures
Jan 18 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Its cold! Let’s give our animal friends a boost to make it the rest of the winter and prep for spring with bird feeders and berry treats! We’ll find out how animals survive the long cold winter. Stay warm with lots of camp fun and games while enjoying a day away from the screens! Children should dress for the weather and plan on spending the day entirely outdoors. Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. 9am-3pm. Grades K-5th. $60/child. Space is limited to 10 children per group. Face masks are required when social distancing isn’t possible. “Have a Heart” Day Off Adventures

Have a Heart this Valentine’s Day! Join us for a full day-off camp as we show our love and appreciation for our Resident Animals! We’ll create heart-themed enrichment for them to explore and play with. Make a special Cedar Run valentine for your family and friends! Children should dress for the weather and plan on spending the day entirely outdoors. Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. 9am-3pm. Grades K-5th. $60/child. Wildlife Baby Shower Drive-Thru

Help us by delivering essential items in preparation for the upcoming arrival of thousands of injured and/or orphaned wild ones.
Drive thru and wave a quick hello OR stay and spend some time visiting Cedar Run!
There will be grab & go kids goody bags*, an art show, chance to win raffle baskets & special appearances by non-releasable wildlife.

Events scheduled for Friday, April 2nd

  • Ongoing, 10am-4pm: Trivia Scavenger Hunt – How well do you know Cedar Run? Come try our Trivia Scavenger Hunt! Get a question sheet from the front desk and search Cedar Run for the answers. Come back with all the right answers and win a prize!
  • 11am, 1pm OR 3pm: Resident Meet and Greet – Get up-close and personal with some mystery resident animals. Questions and photos welcome!
  • 11am OR 1pm: Survival Shelters – Try your hand at building a rustic shelter in the pines! And guess what? The wood is already gathered for you!
  • 12pm OR 2pm: Pond Dipping – Delve into the world of macro-invertebrates with us! Macros are insect larvae and nymphs, snails and aquatic insects that that live in the water and are able to be seen by the naked eye. What kind of things are living in Cedar Run lake? Stop by and check out what we’ve collected and try your hand at finding some creatures of your own!
  • Ongoing, 4-7pm: Canoeing* – Don’t miss this limited experience to paddle on Cedar Run Lake! 20-minute timeslots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • 6-7:30pm: Campfire – Enjoy a quiet evening by the campfire. Marshmallows included!
  • 7-8:30pm: Night Hike* – Experience the Refuge in an exciting way, at night! Enjoy a guided hike under the light of the moon to visit nocturnal habitats that are home to owls, raccoons, opossums and other wildlife that emerge after dark.

Events scheduled for Saturday, April 3rd

  • Ongoing, 10am-4pm: Nature Art – Create some beautiful, simple land art using natural materials! Use all natural objects such as pebbles, twigs, branches, pine cones, mud, leaves and petals. Photograph your sculpture and “tag” us on Facebook or Instagram for a chance to win a prize! Self-guided.
  • 10am OR 11am: Raptor Rendezvous* – Ever wonder what it is like to care for our resident raptors? What do they eat? How do we keep them from getting bored? Join us for a rare glimpse into the world of raptor feeding, care, and enrichment during this exciting and engaging program.
  • 11am OR 12pm: Reptile Encounter – Get up-close and personal with some our resident reptiles!
  • 12:30pm: Tree ID – Learn about and identify numerous plants in the Pinelands. One of our educators will lead you on a guided walk along our trails as we practice basic identification skills using leaves, bark and berries.
  • Ongoing, 1-3pm: Natural Egg Dyeing – while supplies last
  • 1pm: Herp Trek – Love reptiles and amphibians?! We do too! Set out on the grounds in search of these oft elusive critters.
  • 2pm: GPS Treasure Hunt – Treasure hunt anyone? No need to break out a map, instead try your hand at using a GPS to find some treasure boxes!
  • 3pm: Resident Meet and Greet – Get up-close and personal with some mystery resident animals. Questions and photos welcome!
  • Ongoing, 12-4pm: Canoeing* – Don’t miss this limited experience to paddle on Cedar Run Lake! 20-minute timeslots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Hoot, Waddle & Stroll 5k Trail Run & Guided Stroll Fundraiser
Sep 25 @ 9:00 am – 10:30 am

Run for a cause this fall in our 8th annual 5k Trail Run, going through our trails & Wildlife Enclosure Area. Run, walk or waddle on the same course with professional timing. Not a runner or looking to support another participant? Enjoy the outdoors & take a guided stroll through our Wildlife Housing Area with one of our guides. Geared for all ages!

Pre-registration tickets are ON SALE NOW! Sign up before Monday, September 6th to ensure you get your event t-shirt. While supplies last for all who sign up after 9/6/21.
Water & lite bites will be provided to participants before and after the race.

UPDATE 9/15: Pre-registration will end on Wednesday, 9/22/21 at midnight. Day of race registration will be open from 8am-9am on Saturday, 9/25/21. 

 

5k Trail Runners:

Guided Stroller:

The race begins and ends at the Pavilion outside of the Nature Center.

Cedar Run for Your Life: Haunted Guided Hikes
Oct 23 @ 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Just in time for hoots & spooks of Halloween! Only the bravest will dare to explore Cedar Run after dark on our haunted guided night hikes! Learn a bit more about the Legend of New Jersey’s famous Jersey Devil, and hope he does not make an appearance while you are deep in the woods.

Sit around a campfire roasting marshmallows & watch a Halloween movie… if you survive…
Geared toward ages 10 and up.

Rain or shine.

Timed Haunted Night Hikes:
PRE-REGISTRATION CLOSED ON FRIDAY 10/22/21.

  • Doors open at 7:00pm. Enjoy a cozy campfire & Halloween movie while you wait for your hike.
  • Guided hikes will run between 20-30 minutes long, and will be a guided walking hike.
  • Recommended to arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled guided hike, and will promptly begin at the scheduled time.
  • Limited space of 16 per timed guided hike. Advanced registration required.
  • Every participant for the guided hike will need to sign a waiver before participating in the hike. Not recommended for pregnant women or anyone with a heart condition.

Limited space for each Haunted Guided Hike! Grab your tickets now before they… disappear!

  • $15 per person.
  • Children ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an Adult during the duration of the guided hike.
  • No children under 10 may be permitted on the guided hikes.
