Adopt-A-Wild-One

Screech Owl You can help one of our injured or orphaned animals by "adopting" it for a year. Your support provides food, medicine, veterinary treatment and lots of tender loving care. In addition, you'll receive the animal's photo and adoption certificate.

Your heartstrings might be tugged by Little Girl, our raccoon, who came to the Refuge in early summer of 2002. She was found wandering around with no mother in sight cold and hungery. The kind people who found Little Girl kept the adorable baby for several months before bringing her to the Refuge. By that time Little Girl was so habituated (bonded to humans) that she can no longer survive on her own in the wild.

Or you might want to open your heart to Orion the bald eagle or Clack, our eastern screech owl. Orion flew into a high-tension power line on the plains of Wyoming and can no longer fly free. At Cedar Run the eleven year old eagle helps to educate visitors about endangered species. Clack was found on the roadside with an injured wing. X-rays revealed a bad fracture. He underwent surgery to repair the wing with pins, but the damage was too extensive. Although Clack can no longer fly, he has become one of our wildlife ambassadors. Even though he is small in stature, he is big in personality.

And then there is Harley the box turtle. Harley holds court in Cedar Run's deluxe turtle habitat, lording it over a clutch of female box turtles. Despite having lost both hind feet to a close encounter with a car, Harley thinks he's hot stuff and pursues his harem with vigor and enthusiasm.
